Game-changer for my skin I fell in love with prickly pear seed oil during one of my trips to Morocco. Back then, I’d never used a face oil and was used to applying face creams. But during my trip, I ran out of the face cream I was currently using, and was looking for something to moisturize my face with.
Whilst visiting one of my favorite stores in Morocco, I came across a small bottle of prickly pear seed oil. I had never heard of this oil, and was very curious to find out what it was and what it would do for my skin.
My face was covered with hyperpigmentation in that time of my life. After a couple of weeks of using this oil, most of the hyperpigmentation was gone. Plus, my skin tone got way more even and was looking radiant in a way I’ve never seen before. Besides that, my skin felt super soft and moisturized, and I got so many compliments about my skin from people around me, that I knew I had to bring this precious oil to the Netherlands. It was a true game-changer for me and my skin personally, and now it is one of my best sold products.
How is this oil made and why is it so precious?
The oil comes from the fruit of the Opuntia Ficus Indica Cactus. Pear-shaped fruits, which are called prickly pears, grow on the leaves of this a cactus. The prickly pears have seeds from which the prickly pear oil is made. The oil coming out of the seeds has a wonderful, light smell of hay. Each seed contains only 5% of oil, which means that approximately one ton (1.000kg) of prickly pears, or 25kg of seeds (1 million prickly pear seeds), plus 36 working hours are needed in order to make 1 liter of oil. The prickly pear seed oil, therefore, is one of the most precious oils in the world.
Our 100% pure organic oil is cold-pressed from the seeds of the prickly pear: it is not to be confused with macerated extracts of the prickly pear flower or the prickly pear fruit. Those are often sold in a lower price range and under the name prickly pear oil instead of prickly pear seed oil.
What does is do for the skin? La Prickly Pear Seed Oil is a very gentle oil and is therefore also suited for the more delicate skin. It moisturizes and softens the skin, balances oily and combination skin, plus the high concentration of linoleic acid (65-70%) restores skin elasticity and reduces pigmentation. It leaves the skin looking beautifully radiant.
How to use the oil? This oil is suited for all skin types; even for oily skin as it sinks easily into the skin and doesn’t leave it looking or feeling greasy. You can use this oil in the morning and/or evening,:I love to use this oil in the evening before going to bed. The oil is also perfect to massage the face with as it glides easily over the skin. When I have extra time, I use this oil to give my face and neck a nice massage for a couple of minutes. I usually just use my fingers to massage my face, but you can also use it with a gua sha or jade roller.
