Ever since I can remember I have had sensitive skin. Already as a child, I had eczema all over my body for many years. Luckily, it faded and went away before I became a teenager. From then on, I only got eczema from using a specific skincare product that irritated my skin or after eating food like dairy and sugars. It complicated the use of skincare products as most of them triggered eczema or irritated my skin. It was not until my early 30s that I had enough of these skin reactions. It was about time to look for products and ingredients that worked for me instead of against me.
From synthetic to natural In my teens and twenties, I wasn’t paying much attention to my skin or the products I was using; the only product I used for my face was a simple moisturizer. Almost all moisturizers that I tried eventually irritated my skin, so each time that happened, I had to look for a new moisturizer and pray it wouldn't irritate my skin. When I turned 32 years old, I was starting to take better care of myself: I started to pay more attention to what I was eating, and I started to do yoga every day. It was around that time that I started to wonder what type of ingredients the skincare products I was using consisted of. I quickly found and concluded that they were packed with synthetic ingredients; something that I had never paid much attention to before. I decided to try only natural skincare products for a while, just to see how my skin would react.
At a local natural drugstore, I bought a few natural skincare products and tested them. I was truly surprised, because after using the products for a couple of weeks, my skin didn’t have a negative reaction to them. The only downside for me was the fragrance: I was used to synthetic perfumes and couldn’t appreciate the herbal scents of these products just yet. My solution? Making my own skincare products that wouldn’t smell so ‘bad’! At first, I made simple formulations, and my skin absolutely loved them. My skin never looked better: it was calm, it looked and felt hydrated and moisturized, and it even had a beautiful glow. I got so many compliments and questions to find out which products I was using. That was when I decided to become a professional formulator and sell my own, 100% natural skincare products. The following two years, I submerged into studying to become an organic skincare formulator and not long after, Comme Ça Skincare was born.
First up; a skincare product for sensitive and aging skin The first product I launched, was a product for sensitive and aging skin. As I was in my early 30s, I had begun to see the first signs of aging and I wanted to create a product that would be effective enough to protect the skin against premature aging and, at the same time, would be gentle enough for sensitive skin. I researched for countless hours, looking for the best and most gentle and natural ingredients on the planet. They had to soften and nourish the skin and, on top of that, be powerful enough to help against the first signs of aging. I wanted it to be a product that everyone could use, no matter the skin type. It took me 8 months and many - many! - different samples before I came to the final formulation for Le Youth Sérum.
What makes Le Youth Sérum so special? It is a beautiful blend of vegetable oils, algae, and plant extracts with unique properties. The algae extract restores skin elasticity and together with the Acmella Oleracea extract, reduces the visibility of fine lines and wrinkles. The gorgeous blend of plant oils moisturizes the skin while the vitamins and antioxidants protect against premature skin aging. The serum of my dreams had to smell incredible, but I didn’t want to use any perfume or other potentially irritating essential oils. As vanilla easily is one of my favorite scents, I soon knew that this had to be added to the sérum. The quest to find pure and organic vanilla took me more than 6 months. Due to bad harvest, it was challenging to get vanilla at that time, but eventually, I got my hands on organic CO2 vanilla extract from Uganda. It was definitely worth the wait: the serum smells amazing. Applying the sérum onto my face is one of the happy moments that I look forward to every morning. Apart from the fragrance, the serum leaves the skin feeling extremely soft and gives it a beautiful, youthful glow.
